Resolution # 4

To Strengthen the Faith and Biblical Worldview of Ohio District Church Members

WHEREAS, Ohio District congregations have shared grave concerns about the negative impact on church members by humanism, the Western world’s dominant philosophy and worldview; and

WHEREAS, Ohio District congregations have reported that witnessing about Jesus and reaching new members is increasingly difficult given society's further shift into humanism; and

WHEREAS, congregations are grappling with society's humanistic focus which is negatively impacting the involvement of members in the life of their churches, including the frequency of receiving God's Word and Sacraments; and

WHEREAS, congregations have expressed alarm over society's influence on members with non-Biblical views about a wide range of social issues, from sexual identity to traditional marriage to the sanctity of human life; and

WHEREAS, God uses His Word to create faith in Jesus His people (Acts 2:38, Romans 10:17, John 20:30-31); and

WHEREAS, God uses His Word to form and shape the worldview of Christians (1 Thessalonians 2:13; Hebrews 4:12; Isaiah 55:10-11); and

WHEREAS, Luther’s Small Catechism was created so the Head of the Household could instruct the household in the Christian Faith; and

WHEREAS, the 2019 Synodical Convention adopted Resolutions 12-03A and 12-07B, which affirm catechesis and faith formation at home; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that Ohio District encourages congregations to address the society’s impact on members the next triennium by training Heads of Households to better fulfill their vocations at home; and be it further

 RESOLVED, that Ohio District encourages congregations over the next triennium to increase opportunities for members to engage in Bible study beyond Sunday mornings; and be it further

RESOLVED, that Ohio District encourages congregations over the next triennium to encourage and equip members to spend time daily in the Word of God; and be it further

RESOLVED, the Ohio District President reports to the 2025 Ohio District Convention a summary of ways the above resolutions were implemented in Ohio District churches.

An amendment was made that the word “encourages” be inserted after the words “Ohio District.” in the first and second RESOLVEDs.

Action: Passed Yes - 127  No -25.    Thursday morning session.
